Ajp Creations – Showcase Winner

First and foremost I would like to thank Freddie for my showcase day, which was a tremendous success with lots of new followers, sales and lots of retweeting.  It was rather all mind boggling as they came through thick and fast and I spent most of the day thanking people and meeting new people.

I first started my business 4.5 years ago, after spending 10 or so years in Treasury Accounts being creative with numbers!  After a bereavement of a close relative I decided that I wanted to do what I have always loved – drawing!  You never know what is around the corner, and didn’t want to end up thinking “if only”, luckily my husband supported me in what I wanted to do, so it was all systems go or rather all pencils go!

I started off by just doing pictures, portraits and cards, and then happened to meet someone at a show who suggested my designs would look stunning on some placemats and coasters.  From there, I invested in the equipment to do heat pressing with my designs and now have people who collect my design ranges, which are on various items, including worktop savers, coasters, oven gloves, bag, purses, and gadget covers.

At one of the shows, I met Ali Lloyd from Ali’s Craft Studio who has become a good friend and she suggested that I go on twitter to help promote my company.  It took me a while to join, as I wasn’t sure if it was really for me, how wrong was I!  Twitter was the best thing I could have done and I have not looked back since.  My profile has gone up ten-fold and so have my online and portrait orders, it is a brilliant social platform for small businesses and we all help each other. It’s great to be in touch with like-minded people and become virtual friends.

I now have followers from Scotland and Cornwall and overseas, this would never have happened before as I only travel to shows in the South East as staying overnight is an extra cost. With Freddie I have now raised my profile even more and their support is excellent as they guide you through the day and every day.
